I swear it also makes the mucus easier to flush out. Try the "start stop" technique. Pour a third of a pot in, stop, gently exhale through the nose to encourage the mucus to move. I had more success moving the mucus by repeatedly filling my sinuses and letting the water fall out of both nostrils than strictly pouring the whole pot through. Blow nose dry very gently macho blowing just forces water and mucus back into sinuses and maybe into the ears! I'm moving on to goldenseal extract (taking it orally) to help fight the infection.
